Kathryn Covington

Kathryn Diane Covington was born December 30, 1943 in Hugo, OK, daughter of Jack and Dorothy Driver. She passed from this life surrounded by her loving family early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013, in Durant, OK.

“Kathy” as she is known by her family and close friends, lived most of her childhood in Arizona and Oklahoma attending Grant School thru the 11th grade. She graduated from High School in Winslow, Arizona. Kathy married Don Covington June 1, 1960 in Grant, OK and raised two sons while pursuing careers that took them to California, Arizona, New Mexico and Kansas. She graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas and her interest turned to special education and early childhood education. She joined the Hugo School District in 1980 and taught for several years before becoming principle of the Early Childhood Center. Her works in the GEO program for 25 years benefited many young people in this area. Her interest included gardening, caring for her animals and playing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by husband, Don of the home; two sons, Lynn Covington and wife Margaret of Hugo, OK and Dell Covington of Virginia; four grandchildren, Bryan of Hugo, OK, Christine of Sulphur Springs, TX, Callie and Carson of Bartlesville, OK; two great-grandchildren, Zachary of Ft. Towson, OK and Valerie of Sulphur Springs, TX; half-sister, Pixie Smith of Sierra Vista, AZ; and half-brother, Larry Smith of Sierra Vista, AZ.

Kathy’s request is that she be remembered for who she was and how she imparted into others. She would like all of her family and friends in this community and across the country to go on living, only to give pause and celebrate her life in your individual memories. Be blessed by sharing your life with those you love.
